A lot of property in our neighborhood is owned by People from out of state and I have no complaints about that Bay Saint Louis is a great place on the coast to vacation for these folks and it is great income for the county.
With that being said we should not allow these folks to leave abandoned houses in our neighborhoods, Do they care what our neighborhood looks like? how would they feel if I had a dilapidated house next door to them ?
I understand that some of the people could have come into hard times with the economy the way it is, but if that is the case sell to someone that will repair these places and let us get our neighborhoods looking good again. You are not looking at this crap every day, WE ARE..

11035 MISSOURI ST Bay Saint Louis, Ms
This property is shown to be owned by a someone in Philadelphia, Pa. On the weekends I have seen a boat at this property or possibly the lot next door. I have also seen someone feeding the cat that stays here but this could just be a animal lover taking care of the strays. The house is not in that bad of shape the roof looks pretty new and the house only has a some missing siding and the grass is getting high. It would not take much to have this house looking good again with a little paint and a little work, I can not tell you what the inside looks like but from the street it does look gutted.

5167 2nd Street Bay Saint Louis, Ms
Another Shoreline Park property, This property doesn't look that bad and seems to be a decent fixer upper, I have not seen the inside and I am sure it would need to be raised but I think it could be sold for under 20K and restored. My only complaint is that the grass is uncut and I believe the county should send someone to cut it and bill the owner. If the bill is not payed then place a lien on the property.

52xx 1st Street Bay Saint Louis, Ms
Another one on 1st street, This one the owners started to work on but stopped long ago so it has been siting. These are the properties that the county/city would prefer to ignore as they are not in their neighbor hoods. But the fact remains that Bay Saint Louis is a awesome place to live and great place for a second home or just a weekend get away but no one will buy in this area with all these properties lowering the property values.

About 5222 1st street Bay Saint Louis, Ms
This is another one on 1st street that is over grown and neglected. I have been told that a neighbor has contacted the owner and he has agreed to clean this place up but no progress has been made as of yet. Note that I did say a neighbor had contacted the owner and not the city or the county. I have been advised to attend council meetings and voice my concerns but I prefer this method as it will be seen/heard by more people then those that attend these meetings and this will not be forgotten after the meetings are over. I have also been asked if I Have you offered to help with the efforts and the answer is no I have not, I pay my taxes and maintain my own property just as other home owners should do and if they don't its the county/city who should take action.

5142 1st Street Bay Saint Louis, Ms
Ummm yes there is a house in there somewhere. The County Assessor records shows this property to be owned by Shure Foundation Ministries Inc. Not much can be seen from the photos other then a structure in disrepair and lot that is over grown, The over grown brush is not only an eyesore and embarrassment to the neighborhood it also hampers the view of other propertys allowing thief's to go unseen not to mention a place for drug manufactures to hold up.

10060 New Mexico Street Bay Saint Louis, Ms
This house on New Mexico Street owned by Eric and Mary Petersen has been gutted since Katrina. Under the house is a waste land of junk that needs to be hauled off. the only reason the grass on this property ever gets cut is that one of the neighbors cuts it when it gets to bad and he cant stand to look at it any more. In my opinion the owners need to be fined or jailed for animal cruelty.
For the past two plus years the owners of this house had kept their two dogs CAGED in this house without electricity, Air Conditioning or Heat and would only stop by once a day to feed them and let them out to use the bathroom.
After many complaints made to the BSL SPCA failed, an email was sent to PETA whom quickly acted on behalf of the dogs and had them removed from the property, Both dogs were in poor health and one was so ate up with heart worms it had to be put down while the other was saved by a rescue group and adopted out to a loving family.
This story is a good example that if we sit idly by nothing will be done, Our action will force others to take notice and do what needs to be done.

This one is another one I pass everyday, just down the road from the last house this property is also on the main road entering the Shoreline Park subdivision. As you can see the Grass is over grown and all the windows of the property are broken. This property is not in as bad of shape as the last post but I think it would be safe to say that it would need to be raised before it could be restored and that would not be cost effective.
The Hancock County Assessor public records taken from http://www.geoportalmaps.com/atlas/hancock/ show this property to be owned by a Mr Jimmy Hunt of Belle Chase, La

Blighted property in Bay Saint Louis, Ms
Hancock County Cracking Down On Blighted, Abandoned Properties
Hancock County supervisors have a message for property owners who haven't cleaned up since Katrina - Clean up or pay up!
Later this month, the county will begin the process that will give them the authority to remove debris and send the bill to property owners.
That was posted on on WLOX 13 in December of 2006. There are still hundreds of blighted or abandoned properties and over grown trash filled lots in our neighborhoods, half sank boats in the water ways that need to be cleaned up.
we as tax payers and property owners need to take a stand to rid our neighborhoods of these eyesores that are driving our property value down and are a hazard to our children. I will be posting pictures of my neighborhood of Shoreline Park. and would be happy to post pictures that anyone sends me of their neighborhoods. We need to shame the county into taking action to force the owners to clear these blighted properties or to get the county to clear them at the owners expense.
you can help by emailing bslblightedproperty@yahoo.com photos along with the names of the last known owners. the site below is public information of Hancock county property owners.
